A Minnesota family has filed a lawsuit against a Utah resort over the death of their son, who was training at the resort for a freediving competition. The lawsuit claims the Homestead resort in Utah should have “provided a lifeguard, equipped the [geothermal pool] with better safety and rescue equipment and kept better supervision,” all of which may have prevented the man’s death. Man found dead in jail 134

The family of a Colorado man who was found dead in a jail cell has announced they will file a lawsuit against the city and county of Denver. According to the suit, the man was being processed when officers grabbed him, held him down, choked and Tased him before dragging him to his cell and leaving him there. FBI accused of spying 133

An Islamic group has filed a lawsuit against the FBI over “indiscriminate surveillance” by a paid FBI spy of several California mosques in the mid-2000s. Tea lights product liability 132

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of 370,000 tea lights due to a potential fire hazard. Johnson&Johnson product liability 131

Johnson & Johnson has announced a recall of 667,632 packages of Sudafed due to a labeling error. The label includes a double-negative that could confuse patients. Product Liability for remote controls 130

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 2,270 remote controls for entertainment systems due to the risk of the battery igniting. The company that produces the remotes, Niles Audio Corp., said that if the “battery falls from the remote control during handling, it can rupture and smoke or ignite, posing a fire hazard.” The company has received four reports of batteries falling during use and one of those ignited, burning carpet.  San Diego personal injury attorney Staff Report, PR Newswire  02/25/2011

Police lieutenant lawsuit 129

The city of Concord, Calif., has agreed to a $47,512 settlement with a city police lieutenant. The lawsuit claimed the lieutenant was transferred and demoted due to speaking out about a sexual harassment lawsuit. School bus crash 128

The Suffolk Country School Board has agreed to an undisclosed settlement in a lawsuit stemming from a school bus crash in January 2009. The suit was filed by the mother of one of the students on the bus who suffered neck and back injuries in the crash. Publicis Groupe SA sexual discrimination 127

A former public relations employee at Publicis Groupe SA has filed a $100 lawsuit against the company, claiming sexual discrimination. The plaintiff claims in the suit that she and other women have been unfairly fired after returning from maternity leave and that the company hires men and a disproportionately high rate. Also, the suit notes that while women make up “70 percent of the public relations staff,” they only hold about 15 percent of the leadership positions. Product Liability for adult bicycles 126

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 1,550 Felt Adult bicycles. Produced by ADK Technologies and imported by California-based Felt Bicycles, the recall was issued after it was discovered that the bicycle’s fork can break, posing a fall risk for the rider.
