Book seller Barnes & Noble has agreed to a settlement in a lawsuit filed over the screen design of the company’s Nook electronic book reader. The suit, filed by the company Spring Design, claimed the book giant violated a nondisclosure agreement the two had when it used the Spring Design technology in Nook. It has been reported that in late December, Johnson & Johnson recalled four types of sutures due to potential contamination from unsealed packages. Product Liability for chicken and pork products 113

A Northern California food supplier has issued a recall of 64,000 pounds of chicken and pork products due to bits of broccoli in the products that could be contaminated with Listeria. The contamination was discovered in the premade dishes during routine inspections. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 1,800 mini-candle travel sets sold by Tommy Bahama. Civil rights violation lawsuit 110

A lawsuit has been filed against Waynesville, Ohio and the local police department over various civil rights violations. In their lawsuit, a local couple claims police entered their apartment without a warrant or permission and forced the two out of the shower, making them stand naked in front of the officers while being questioned. The suit also claims officers allowed the couple’s nanny to enter their house and remove some of their belongings without permission. Major movie lawsuit 109

A lawsuit has been filed against major movie producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein by two animators over profits from the animated movie “Escape from Planet Earth.” The lawsuit claims the Weinsteins shorted the plaintiffs on potential profits from the movie, and then paid them $500,000 in an attempt to avoid a lawsuit during the Academy Awards. “The Weinsteins…did not want to take the chance that their reputations would be sullied by the truth at a time when the voting for the Oscars was underway,” the suit says.  San Diego personal injury attorney Jose Martinez , New York Daily News  03/02/2011

Snow storm auto accident 108

A California couple has been awarded $5.7 million after they were rear-ended by a Southern California Edison truck in a snow storm two years ago. The accident occurred while the plaintiffs were installing snow chains on their tires safely on the side of the road. The suit claimed the driver of the truck was not properly trained to drive in snow, lost control and rear-ended the couple. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 400 wooden toy activity centers. The product, the Parents Busy Time Activity Center, has “wooden pegs on the xylophone activity that can come loose,” and pose a choking risk to young children. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 5,702 built-in refrigerators whose doors can suddenly detach. Imported by Liebherr-Canada Ltd, Liebherr built-in 30-inch wide bottom freezer refrigerators can pose a risk of injury to consumers, the agency reported.
