A lawsuit has been filed against a Charlotte, N.C., Omni Hotel and the hotel’s barman over the rape of a female guest in September 2007. The plaintiff alleges in the suit that she was given a drink by the barman that “made her dizzy” and then he followed her to her room and raped her. The suit accuses the hotel of having inadequate security measures and says the barman had committed similar crimes in the past. An Ohio University professor has received a settlement totaling over $150,000 in a plagiarism lawsuit in which the professor claimed his civil rights were violated. In 2004, the professor was held responsible for allegations of allowing plagiarism by graduate students in the mechanical engineering department, and his graduate faculty status was revoked. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 1,800 Little Pet Vet costumes and Dr. Littles costumes due to a choking hazard. The agency said the costumes were sold with small toy stethoscopes, which can be taken apart into small pieces and pose risks to young children. Federal officials said the openers can break the wine glasses, causing a laceration risk to consumers. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 4,300 dirt bikes imported by Baja Motorsports due to possible fuel leaks. The agency reported that fuel can leak from the fuel tanks on the bikes, posing a fire hazard. Two priests sexually abused a boy 79

A Missouri man has filed a lawsuit against two former Kansas City priests, claiming they both sexually abused him when he was a boy. The suit alleges the molestation happened when the boy was eight-years-old by one defendant and then again when he was 13 by the other. The Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph is also named in the lawsuit, which claims the church should have been aware of the priests’ behaviors and done more to stop them. A Washington jury has awarded $600,000 to a former foster child in a lawsuit that alleged negligence by social workers during a “ritual sex abuse” investigation in the mid-1990s. According to the lawsuit, the state Department of Social and Health Services and a former employee failed to quickly remove the then 11-year-old child from the home of a local police detective after reports of neglect were filed.
