A California paint company has agreed to pay $1 million to settle a lawsuit accusing it of “illegal transportation and mismanagement of hazardous waste and materials.” Vista Paint Corp. will pay the settlement to six district attorney’s offices and will also have to improve their training and storage methods. Los Angeles County has approved a $1.175 million settlement with a female patient at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in a medical negligence lawsuit. QVC has issued a recall of 14,000 spinning candle holders due to a fire risk. The holders, which contain 12 soy tea lights, can catch fire and pose a burn risk to consumers, the company said. Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. announced it initiated a recall in October of 75 bottles of metronidazole antibacterial tablets. The recall was issued because some of the tablets were undersized and may not provide the proper dose, allowing an infection to worsen. Supervalu Inc. has agreed to a $3.2 million settlement with 110 Chicagoworkers in a discrimination lawsuit over firings at local supermarkets. The lawsuit claimed that Supervalu and its Jewel-Osco chain “had a ‘policy and practice’ of terminating employees with disabilities at the end of their medical leaves.” The suit alleged that since 2003, 1,000 employees had been terminated under this policy.
