A Washington jury has awarded $600,000 to a former foster child in a lawsuit that alleged negligence by social workers during a “ritual sex abuse” investigation in the mid-1990s. According to the lawsuit, the state Department of Social and Health Services and a former employee failed to quickly remove the then 11-year-old child from the home of a local police detective after reports of neglect were filed.
